Leonardo has announced that an AW189 super medium helicopter will be operated by Aviashelf to perform oil & gas transport operations from Sakhalin Island in Russia. The aircraft will be supplied together with a support and training package with delivery expected in summer 2018. “This latest result confirms the competitiveness of Leonardo’s modern solutions in the oil & gas market and further strengthens the success of the AW189 in Russia,” declared the manufacturer. The AW189 will be equipped with a Full Ice Protection System (FIPS) allowing operations in known icing conditions, when other helicopters would be grounded.
