Qatar has signed a contract to purchase 28 NH90 military helicopters for DIMDEX, Qatar’s biennial defense exhibition. The agreement, which includes 16 NH90s in tactical transport configuration (TTH) and 12 NH90s in naval configuration (NFH), will support the plan to modernize the country’s military helicopter fleet. As part of this plan, Qatar will receive 16 single-engine light H125 helicopters in training configuration for the Qatar Armed Forces Air Academy’s operations. “We are honored to support Qatar’s armed forces through this strategic partnership,” said Ben Bridge, Executive Vice President Global Business at Airbus Helicopters before adding: “The NH90 has proven itself in combat and it will meet Qatar’s operational requirements for decades to come, both in terms of troop transport and naval missions. Our partnership on the new training academy will also strengthen relations between our countries by enabling the exchange of expertise and know-how in the field of helicopter operations.”
Leonardo will act as prime contractor for managing the program with the end client and Airbus will be responsible for the final assembly and delivery of 16 NH90 TTH aircraft from its Marignane, France plant. Leonardo will be responsible for the final assembly and delivery of the 12 NH90 NFH helicopters from its Venice – Tessera plant in northern Italy. FV
