As part of the modernization of its helicopter fleet, the Victoria Police in Australia selected the AW139 twin engine. Three of them, provided by StarFlight Victoria, will be dedicated to law enforcement, patrol and surveillance operations. They will also be used for search and rescue missions from Essendon Airport. The AW139s will be delivered at the end of 2019 from the final assembly line at Leonardo Vergiate in Italy, and will come into service in 2020. Their configuration includes an advanced mission console, a camera, a cable cutter and a rescue winch. This contract is a new success in Australia for the AW139 which is one of the most used helicopters in the field of emergency medical services (EMS) throughout the territory.
To date, nearly 120 helicopters of different models have been sold by Leonardo in Australia for civil, military and parapublic activities.
